Newington Forest and South Run share a road name and a tree line. The association office is literally on Southrun Road — that is how close we are. If you are here, I am about as local a painter as you are going to find.
With more than eighteen hundred homes, Newington Forest is a real mix: single-family houses on wooded lots alongside long runs of three-level townhomes. Much of it dates to the 1970s and 1980s, and a great many of these homes have been updated at least once since — which is its own kind of puzzle for a painter.
In a townhome especially, the whole house reads as one space. You see the stairwell wall from the front door, the kitchen and the living area at the same time. Get one line wrong and it is visible from everywhere. I walk the house first and plan the lines as a set, so the third floor and the entry look like the same decision, because they are.
The Newington Forest Community Association looks after the pool, courts, playgrounds and the community center on Southrun Road, and it is the place to check on exterior and architectural rules before a project.

I am not affiliated with the association — this link is here because it is genuinely useful if you own a home in Newington Forest.
